Is Your Laundry Really Clean?

Delicate fabrics and high energy bills mean that a lot of us wash our laundry at home on a lower temperature. However, not all temperatures kill germs, so there is the risk of bacteria and other germs surviving, or being passed from one item of clothing to another.

Some key pieces of clothing and laundry to be mindful of, because they are more likely to harbor germs and bacteria, include the following:

  • Baby bibs
  • Baby onesies
  • Underwear
  • Gym clothes
  • Towels and bath mats
  • Bed linen and pillow cases
  • Blankets

Below are some tips which will help you make sure your family’s laundry is hygienically clean.

Use a Laundry Sanitiser

Including a laundry sanitiser, such as Pine O Cleen Laundry Sanitiser, in your wash is a great way to be confident that your clothes are clean.

  • Using a laundry sanitiser will help remove bacteria on your clothes even when you wash on a lower temperature*, and get rid of bacteria that your regular detergent may have left behind. When used as directed, Pine O Cleen’s Laundry Sanitiser removes 99.9% of bacteria^.
  • If you wash your baby’s clothes with your household laundry, use a laundry sanitiser to remove bacteria.
  • How to use: Add Pine O Cleen Laundry Sanitiser to the rinsing stage of your normal washing cycle.
    • Front Loader: Add 2 capfuls to the fabric softener drawer of your washing machine.
    • Top Loader: Add 4 capfuls to the drum of your washing machine during the rinse cycle.
    • Hand Wash: Add 1 capful to 2.5L of water and leave to soak for 15 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.
    • Once you’ve done this, put your washer on the rinse cycle for 16 minutes.

Wash your towels separately

Towels, dishcloths and bath mats are a magnet for germs and bacteria, so it’s important to look after them properly.

  • Wash your bathroom towels, bath mats and dishcloths once a week. Make sure you wash bathroom and kitchen towels separately, as well as from the rest of your laundry.
  • Try adding Pine O Cleen Laundry Sanitiser to your wash to help make sure your towels stay fresh and hygienic.

Change your bed linen once a week

Bed linen can be home to a whole host of germs/bacteria, so what is the best way to keep your sheets clean and hygienic?

  • You should try to change your bed linen once a week and clean it separately from your other laundry, if possible.
  • Similar to your towels, it’s a good idea to add Pine O Cleen Laundry Sanitiser to the machine when you are washing your bed linen to make sure bacteria is removed, even in cold wash*.

Hang it up straight away

Leaving wet laundry in the machine, even for a short amount of time, can cause germs and bacteria to flourish and multiply quickly.

  • Make sure you hang your laundry up to dry straight away.
  • You may want to run a second cycle with a laundry sanitiser to be sure that any bacteria is killed, if you do not manage to do so.

Keep your washing machine clean

If you want your laundry to be hygienically clean, it goes without saying how important it is to keep your washing machine clean, too.

  • A quick wipe of the washer drum with a Pine O Cleen Disinfectant Wipe before putting your laundry on is an effective way to quickly freshen up your machine.
  • For a deeper clean you should use a washing machine cleaner regularly. This will reach hidden areas of the machine that you can’t get to, and will help to kill germs and stop bad odours.

Sanitising your laundry is an important part of the laundering process to ensure your laundry is not only clean and fresh smelling, but also hygienic. With Pine O Cleen Laundry Sanitiser, you can help eliminate the bacteria that can make you unwell and create lingering bad smells.

So there you have it. Hopefully these tips help ensure your family’s laundry is as clean as possible. One final tip, which is less for your laundry and more for you, is remember to always wash your hands with soap and warm water after handling dirty laundry to make sure any germs are washed off.
